Decisions that shape the next year of work

Some decisions shape the next year of work, such as what to build, how to price it, or whether to build, buy, or partner. Strategic Advisory brings a senior view to one of them before you commit.

We read what you send before the session, then work through the options with the people who will make the call. Afterward you get a written recommendation that sets out the trade-offs and what we would do, and a plan with owners, steps, and what to measure.

Who it’s for
  • You are choosing what to build next, and whichever you pick will take most of your team’s year.
  • You are setting prices for a new product, or changing them for one you already sell.
  • You need to decide whether to build a capability, buy it, or partner for it.
  • Your leadership team disagrees on the way forward and wants an outside view.
Who leads it
Led by Pete McGraw, our Founder and AI Architect.

A recommendation in writing and a plan with owners

  • A working session on the decision in front of you, led by our Founder and AI Architect
  • A written recommendation that lays out the options, the trade-offs, and what we would do
  • A plan for what happens next, with owners, steps, and what to measure
  • A follow-up session once the plan is under way

One decision, worked through before and after the session

  1. Agree on the decision

On a call, we agree on the one decision the work is for, who needs to be in the room, and what you will send us to read.

  2. Prepare

We read what you send, such as your plans, your numbers, and what you have tried, and come to the session with the options and the questions to work through.

  3. Hold the working session

Our Founder and AI Architect leads the session with the people who will make the call. We test each option against your goals and limits, and agree on what matters most.

  4. Write the recommendation

We write up the options, the trade-offs, and what we would do, with a plan that names owners, steps, and what to measure.

  5. Follow up

Once the plan is under way, we meet again to review it against those measures and adjust it with you.

How to start and what it costs

Start with a free call. We ask where things stand and what you want to change, and you leave with a straight answer on what it would take.

Strategic Advisory: From $2,500. A half-day working session with a written recommendation. Ongoing advisory is quoted by the month.

Your data and what you own

Where is our data stored?
In your own accounts and tools where possible, otherwise in cloud services we set up for your project and name for you before work starts.
What happens to our data when the work ends?
We hand over or delete what we hold, as you choose, and remove our access to your systems.
Who owns the code you write for us?
You own what we write for you; we keep our own pre‑existing components. What you own at the end, such as code, accounts, and content, is agreed in writing for each engagement before work starts.

A sample written recommendation

Part of a recommendation for a made-up scheduling software company deciding how to add card payments. The company, its options, and its plan are all illustrative.

Sample written recommendation

Scheduling software company, card payments

The decision

Should we build card payments into our product ourselves, or partner with a payments provider?

The options

  • Build payments ourselves

For: Full control of the checkout and the payment screens.

Against: Our team takes on the security and compliance work, and the roadmap waits while it is built.

  • Partner with a payments provider

For: Customers can pay in the product sooner, and the provider handles security and compliance.

Against: The provider takes a share of each payment.

  • Keep payments outside the product

For: No new work for the team.

Against: Customers keep asking for it, and the office keeps chasing invoices by email.

Our recommendation

Partner with a payments provider for the next release, and review the decision once most customers pay in the product.

It puts payments in front of customers soonest and keeps the team on the roadmap. The provider’s share of each payment is the cost of that speed.

Next steps

  1. Compare providers’ fees, contracts, and payment screens

    Owner: Finance lead

  2. Design the payment screens and try them with customers

    Owner: Head of product

  3. Build and test the connection to the chosen provider

    Owner: Engineering lead

What to measure: The share of invoices paid in the product, reviewed at the follow-up session.

Sample for a made-up business. Its decision, options, and plan show the format of a written recommendation.

Questions about Strategic Advisory

Which decisions do you advise on?

Stratyx Ventures advises on the decisions that shape a product or a business line. They include what to build next, how to price it and take it to market, how to structure the team that runs it, and whether to build, buy, or partner.

What happens in the working session?

In the working session, our Founder and AI Architect works through one decision with the people who will make it: the options, the trade-offs, and what each would take. We read what you send beforehand, so the session goes straight to the options.

Do you also build what you recommend?

Stratyx Ventures can build what a recommendation calls for, such as a product, a website, or an AI system. The recommendation is yours to act on, with us or with anyone else.

Can advisory continue after the first decision?

Strategic Advisory can continue as ongoing advisory, quoted by the month, once the first decision is made. Each engagement already includes a follow-up session once its plan is under way.

Put the decision in front of us

On a first call, we agree on the decision, who should be in the room, and what you will send us to read.
